Elite

Elite, a 1984 space simulator by David Braben and Ian Bell, was ported to the ZX Spectrum in 1985 by Firebird. Players control Commander Jameson, trading, pirating, or bounty hunting across eight galaxies with 256 planets. The game’s wire-frame 3D graphics and open-ended gameplay were groundbreaking. The Spectrum version added a supernova mission. Crash magazine scored it 92%, and it ranked high in Gallup charts and Your Sinclair’s Top 100. Its innovative design influenced space sims, making it a landmark title in gaming history.
